Guess what time it is!!!

IT'S BLOG TIME!!

Okay, okay...don't get excited kids. It's just school time once again...which means less free time to derp around on the interwebz and generally hang out. So here is a quick update on what exactly happened this summer:

First, I got out of school! (Refer to image above). Of course I started working full time a couple days later, but whatever. Work was pretty basic: I woke up, watched some TV, went to work, and sat around for 6 hours basically everyday.

The first trip I actually went on was to beautiful Estes Park on a motorcycle! The rock formations around the area were absolutely amazing to see! It was great fun!! About a week or so after that I made my way to Madison, WI. Madison was great fun! I stayed with my cousin in her apartment -- placed immediately next to all the frat houses =/ It was loud as hell for summer vacation, but I seemed to sleep just fine! College towns...ewwwwwww...

Next, exactly a month after, I went to the Jersey Shore! Get crazy, get wild! NO! NONONONONOOO!! I did NOT go to that part of the Jersey Shore! Naw, I went to Cape May...which is about the most tourist infested place on the Earth. So many fat people, and so many white people. It was great though! Loved seeing all of my family again both in WI and NJ!! Great fun in two awesome places!!

After the two family trips I was finally able to go on one with my boy! Yes, New York City was absolutely freaking amazing x10000000!!! Other than getting ass-raped by our cab driver, we had a freaking blast! So yeah, why did we go to NYC you ask? I'll tell you...WITHIN TEMPTATION!!!! Yes, that is right my friends! We went and saw Within Temptation LIVE and were at the VERY FRONT OF THE FREAKING THEATER!!! A metal gate, and about 4ft of space, separated me from my absolute favorite group of people!! I was able to hand a present up to Ruud (the guitarist) we were so close!! Pictures of the concert can be found here: CLICK ME!! :D I'm still uploading/stealing a few from friends we met in line. Yeah, we were in line for 7+ hours, but omg it was so damn worth it! Speaking of friends, we met some AMAZING people in line!! Hanging/rocking out with them was a BLAST!!

So yeah, the Monday after we got back school started D: (We flew in on 9/11...christ...I do not recommend it.) Meh, whatever...I suppose I should get back to studying and homework. This was a nice break though :3 Au revoir my loves!

Canaan Review!

xARTURIAx’s Anime Reviews
-Canaan

Type-Moon’s Kinoko Nasu and Takashi Takeuchi have teamed up once again to create a new, action packed, thrill-ride, titled Canaan. Canaan, a 13-episode anime series, is based on one of Japan’s best selling, and greatly awarded, Nintendo Wii title “428: Fuusa Sareta Shibuya de”. Also a Kinoko Nasu story, 428 introduces us to the main plotline of the Canaan anime series…but of course, I’ve never had a chance to play this Wii game (stupid regional coding crap…). Even with this factor, this anime seems to have summed up the basis of the 428 plots pretty well, and with its recent US release on to Blu-Ray and DvD, Canaan is sure to spawn its own collection of fans. As stated before, the series presents itself as an action-packed ball of gun slinging joy  (if that makes any sense at all…), and for those who are fans of Kinoko Nasu’s other works (Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime, Witch of the Holy Night, just to name a few) his newest animated series will surely not disappoint!

Plotline: 8/10
Canaan presents itself with a ridiculous plotline that doesn’t seem to make any sense at all at the beginning of the series…but that isn’t how anime works, now is it? Although a bit difficult to understand at first, the plot line starts to unravel throughout the series. As characters are introduced, we as the audience begin to see different pieces of their confusing histories fitting together. It is made VERY obvious that there was a previous story developed before this series took place, which I found a bit annoying at times. I didn’t play the game…I have no idea how these main characters know each other…but…I-I really don’t care!! The plot kept my attention, and certainly kept me guessing, which I adore in an anime series!
About midway through more confusion struck with the introduction of the Alphard, and her group of…terrorists? To put it simply, the series centers on a mysterious virus being released (during the 428 game scenarios, I believe), a group of terrorists spreading the virus/experimenting with people, and a victim of the attacks timidly running around taking pictures. The introduction of “new” characters once again makes it VERY apparent there was a prequel involved. The plot seems to skew a bit, but in the long run, everything is summed up in a pretty interesting way. It simply couldn’t be a Nasu plotline without a very strange way of being presented, right?

Characters/Voices: 7/10
This is where I was really disappointed in Nasu. For someone who is known worldwide for his character development, Nasu didn’t really seem to shine here. Don’t get me wrong, I still ADORE the characters within the series (Alphard is a badass), but they didn't seem to “stick out” as much as his other character bases. Canaan is an assassin/mercenary, quiet and brutal when it counts, and Alphard is the leader of a terrorist group, bent on destroying everything Canaan stands for. Basic stuff, I suppose. The other characters don’t tend to have much of an impact on the main plotline but are more-so there to mess with our emotions throughout the story. (“She had such a nice ass!” –Mino-san) The only character that seemed to stand out the most was the main character Maria Oosawa. Although pretty useless, Maria showed the most personality out of all the characters. She may have run around screaming “Sugoi!” half the time, but that's just what makes Maria, Maria! To put it simply, Maria really shaped the bases of the other characters (Canaan being the most apparent).
As for voice acting, I have no complaints. The voices fit the characters perfectly…but I have yet to hear the English cast…so this comment is only for the Japanese cast. NONE of the characters have voices that are truly annoying, and the script is well written. If you’re one who only watches anime for the voice acting, Canaan is definitely one that should be watched.

Animation: 10/10
This is where Canaan really steps it up from a mediocre anime to something really entertaining. The action scenes are truly flawless and certainly a treat to watch. The animators really did a great job illustrating every detail down to the last movement. Canaan does a great job of representing Type-Moon’s skill in the animation department, and will NOT disappoint any fan of action anime. The characters are great looking, even when being shot at, blown up, and contorting their bodies into weird ass positions. Detail is, once again, key to the looks of each character…and I love that! Canaan does not only look great, but details EVERYTHING! Very good, and very pretty to look at!

Overall: 8/10
For a 13-episode series, Canaan could best be described as a little action-packed treat for a cold day. Not the best currently out on the market, but definitely not the worst! If your thing is action anime Canaan BETTER be on your list to watch. The characters may be a bit “blah” at times, but that certainly does not ruin the seiries as a whole. Getting through the entire series will not take long at all (because you’ll want to watch the next episode almost immediately), so I recommend this anime to anyone who just wants to watch a new series. It’s fantastic, and easy to cosplay…believe me, I know! ;D

Been a while, huh?

Mood: Bored
Music: Whatever is playing in the mall...I think Celine Dion (I Drove All Night) was playing a second ago.

Yes, it certainly has been a while since I last posted a blog entry...but I've been missing it. A lot has happened since I last posted (which was what, in January?) and I feel like I should talk a little about it. Hopefully I can post pics again, but they really are not that nessesary for this particular post.

To start off, school has officially ended (meaning I'm now on summer break...not, "I've graduated" or whatnot), which is suber totally awesome sauce. It was HORRIBLE having to be locked away studying for finals while everyone esle was out of school and traveling. I'm also never returning to the dorms again, which is fabulous! It wasn't the worst place in the world by any stretch, but it wasn't the best either. We got lucky with our location and didn't have very loud neighbors. Who cares about that boring stuff anyway? Onto something that really matters! ANIME 'n' VID-YA GAMES!!

I've been watching a fair amount of new 2011 anime from Japan lately, but I have to say, GOSICK is certainly my favorite. If you're into mystery anime set back before WWII in face european contries, this anime is totally for you. The main character is damn near adorable and hilarious at the same time. Also, FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC news!!! Fate/Zero, the absolutly amazing novel series by Urobuchi Gen, is being made into an anime! Watch out Fate/Stay Night...Fate/Zero has a great chance of taking your place as my favorite anime! Below I'll attempt to post the PV of the anime series. Carnival Phantasm is also supposed to be out rather soon too! Yaaaaay!! On the video game side, nothing really that spactacular...Infamous (recieved thanks to the "welcome back" program from the PSN) is awesome. Catherine is comming out soon...and I hope to have an external link on this blog site to my reviews! Also, I was supposed to be at E3 this past week...but plans, and money, fell through...oh well, next year hopefully I'll be bloggin' from there!!

What else...hmm...oh!!! The Fate/Stay related RP I wanted to start is finally in action!
http://fate.distantavalon.com/ and http://wiki.distantavalon.com/ are up and runnin'! I'll hopefully have some links to those on here too! I also have this DEEP craving to begin writing some Fate/Stay fanfiction...will it be appropriate? Probably not...especially because I realized how fun it is to write a specific genra...now just to put my own character into the story without making her too mary sue...maybe I'll make her ugly or something...NAAWWW!! I could never do that...but whatevs, that will come at another time.

Got a new job, by the way! Workin' at the Colorado Gold Market over at the Cherry Creek Mall now! More money, more down time, totally awesome. I really needed to get out of King Soopers...

Alright so what else has happend? Hmmm...oh, thats right...SAKURA CON HAPPENED!! Yes! Sakura Con in Seattle was a BLAST!! I'm sooooooo happy we could afford to go, and with Logie too!! Met an AMAZING group of people (mostly Fate/Stay Night people) and had an awesome photo shoot -- which by the way, I had no idea F/SN photoshoots could even happen before! I took along my Saber Zero outfit, which now needs a new wig *tears*, as well as my Sei (Bakuretsu Tenshi, Burst Angel) cosplay...never really had time to wear it though, was too busy in Saber Zero. There was a Gilgamesh there...and I'm friends with him on FB...Squeeeee!! XD I have pics posted on my FB...or well, Justin Dreher does...(I'll post the link to the album at the bottom) so please feel free to snoop!

Alright, that should do it! I couldn't go into anymore detail of this post would be long and annoying! Expect some changes to this site rather soon...maybe...we'll see! PEAC(S)E!

Maybe I'm Just Stubborn, Who Knows?

Shut up. That was the only title I could think of. Anyway, the long winter break is now officially over and I've now been in school for a week and a half. I'm not too sad about it though. Winter break was starting to feel really long, and I could feel my brain oozing out of my ear every once in a while. (Nice imagery, huh? I could totally be the next Stephanie Meyer! Ew.) Which reminds me...I actually thought about writing a Vampire (Tsukihime) based story today, just for the hell of it. I probably wont ever get started on the damn thing though...there is just no time in the day. I have other/better things to write...like this blog post *cough*...and more reviews. I should be finishing my Hyphytek business cards sometime today. All that's left is adding in my title (which is no longer Sex Slave, sadly. D:) Where was I? Right, back to school chattin'. So far this quarter has started off pretty good! My classes seem simple enough (just time consuming, which is standard for any DU course) and pretty interesting. My professors are all great people and truly love what they teach, which makes all classes a bit more lively. My Contemporary Environmental Issues class (cleverly named my "hippy class") seems really interesting...but very mind altering. Luckily, my opinions shant be skewed by a college course. Maybe I'm just stubborn, who knows? Better yet, who cares?! :D

Lets see...OH! My birthday is coming up. Yippee? I don't know, turning 20 is so lame. I still can't do anything fun, AND I'm going to be old. OOOOLLLLDDDD! My face shall be engulfed by wrinkles and liver spots will start appearing. Meh, well at least I still have a few more weeks to call everyone else old (except Max, because he's younger than me >.> G'damnit Max!). I'm hoping to get a new speaker system for my dorm/room that I can plug all my media players into! Can't wait to annoying the entire floor with my music!!! That and a new tarot deck! Didn't know I did tarot readings? Well I do. Duck and I do. We were taught by both Brandon and Rina, who skills are scary good. It's fun, and uplifting (sometimes)...y'all should try it. Anyway, the decks are want consist of dark angels and mystic dreamers. The art is so beautiful with both decks, and both seem easy to understand. I have to be careful with the dark angel deck though...not sure if I'll be able to handle the readings.

Hyphytek.net is really moving forward, which is great!! After taking a little break for the holidays I fell like I should start writing again. I still need to post pics/info about the NDK NYE ball we attended...and complain about the DJ...and right a few reviews. I'm thinking a Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt review to start off the new year! "Fahk you beech!" Ah, gotta love it. So now I'm off to class. Enjoy some more Within Temptation lyrics at the end of this post. :D Ja'ne!

See who I am, break through the surface.
Reach for my hand, let's show them that we can,
free our minds and find a way.
The world is in our hands.

P.S. Pics don't seem to be working for some reason. Makes my blog less exciting, but whatevs. I'll try again soon.
